The first week of LA Food Bowl has elapsed. It’s been a busy week full of great events with three more weeks to go! If you’ve been keeping track of the festivities, then you’ve already seen the amazing selection of dishes at the launch party which took place at Rossoblu. The City Market South restaurant in downtown’s Fashion District was joined by DTLA Cheese, LocoL, Chengdu, Shibumi, Wanderlust, and Night + Market. Jonathan Gold also presented the Restaurant of the Year award to Carlos Salgado of Taco Maria.
Chai latte and blue corn-blueberry scone from Friends & Family
Some of the events that followed the launch highlighted several topics. “The Power of Food” discussion with chef José Andrés, chef Susan Feniger, the LA Kitchen, Zooey Deschanel and many others, showcased the importance of food and how it shapes a community. The “Next Gen” Bowl Bash celebrates new culinary talent in LA and featured chefs from restaurants like Winsome and Scratch Bar & Kitchen as well as secret backyard BBQ Trudy’s Underground Barbecue. Other events have included discussions, demos and prix fixe dinners at restaurants: Cliff’s Edge, Taco Maria, Momed, Mayura, and Hugo’s.
Olive Oil Fried Eggs from Friends & Family
Last week, I had the pleasure of enjoying brunch at Friends & Family. They’re a vegetarian- and vegan-friendly restaurant in the heart of Thai Town. They will also be participating at LA Food Bowl’s “Plant Power, the No Beast Feast”: seasonal vegetarian and vegan dishes paired with fine wine, beer and cocktails. If their brunch is any inclination to their delicious, vegetable-forward cuisine, then I’m definitely looking forward to this it event.
Two Poached Eggs from Friends & Family
I’m keeping my eye on future LA Food Bowl events as to not miss out and I urge you to do the same. If the event you’re interested in requires a ticket, definitely get them before they sell out!
