Who has LA’s Best Burger? That was the theme for Night Market’s fourth night - actually, day as this event took place in the afternoon and would be followed by another event in the evening. The event was hosted by LA Times’ own Jenn Harris and Off The Menu’s Lawrence Longo. Attendees were encouraged to vote for their favorite burger. The judges would also get to cast their vote. Guest judges included Phil Rosenthal of Somebody Feed Phil, Jaleel White from cult classic Family Matters, as well as Claudia Alende, Elsie Hewitt, and Benny Blanco.
The burgers were notable favorites: Banh Oui, Belcampo, Bowery, Everson Royce Bar, Hank’s, HiHo Cheeseburger, Love Hour, Otium, Mel’s Drive In, and Nomad. Mel’s submitted their famous patty melt and Nomad threw their hat in the ring twice with their beef burger and chicken burger. A summer cook off isn’t complete without ice cream. New York’s Milk Bar brought their ice cream truck and was handing out cups of cereal milk swirls - a sweet and salty treat!
Beverages included cocktails by Jose Cuervo and Suntory, beer by Sapporo and Peroni, coconut water by Zico, mineral water by Topo Chico, and water by Proud Source Water.
The tally of the votes revealed the winner of the People’s Choice award as HiHo Cheeseburger and the Judges’ pick went to Banh Oui.
